2024 International Forum on Comprehensive Utilisation of Red Mud

The comprehensive utilisation of red mud is a key issue for the green and high-quality development of the alumina industry and a global challenge that the international community and production enterprises are striving to address. Effective utilisation of red mud is of great significance for ecological and environmental protection and green circular development. In 2023, the comprehensive utilisation of red mud in China exceeded 10 million tons, with a utilisation rate of 9.8%, leading the world in red mud utilisation.

To further build an international exchange and cooperation platform, promote domestic and international technical exchanges and achievements transformation, drive global collaborative innovation in the red mud comprehensive utilisation industry, and support the green development of the alumina industry, the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association and the International Aluminium Institute, supported by China Aluminium Corporation and Rio Tinto Group, will jointly hold the "2024 International Forum on Comprehensive Utilisation of Red Mud" in Lyon, France, from October 31 to November 1.

Ⅰ. Main Content 

This forum will exchange and discuss the latest trends in the development of red mud comprehensive utilisation industries in key countries and regions, technical achievements, project progress, policy standards, etc. Key utilisation directions such as source reduction of red mud, differentiated utilisation, element recovery, and multi-solid waste synergy will be explored. Additionally, visits to Rio Tinto's French enterprises and Greek aluminium enterprises will be organized to inspect the comprehensive utilisation of red mud.
